Abel Ferreira Surpasses Scolari, Sets Palmeiras Record with Most Wins in Brasileirão

Abel Ferreira is rewriting Palmeiras history – again. The Portuguese manager just surpassed Luiz Felipe Scolari as the coach with the most wins in the Brasileirão for the São Paulo club. He achieved this feat after his team beat Vasco da Gama 1-0 last Sunday.

Ferreira now boasts 86 victories in the Brasileirão since arriving in 2020. Scolari, the former Brazil national team coach, had 85 wins. Vanderlei Luxemburgo, a former Real Madrid coach, trails behind with 81 wins.

The Palmeiras social media team didn’t hold back, calling Ferreira a “Gigante, Patrão!” – or “Giant, Boss!” – when celebrating his achievement on X.

Ferreira has been at Palmeiras for six seasons, racking up 188 wins in 323 games. He’s also won ten titles with the club, including three state championships, two Brasileirão titles, the Copa do Brasil, the Supercopa do Brasil, the Recopa Sul-Americana, and two Libertadores trophies.

There’s been speculation that Ferreira could be in line for the Brazil national team job, but Palmeiras president Leila Pereira has denied any negotiations with the Brazilian Football Confederation. For now, Ferreira remains focused on his work at Palmeiras.
