AB de Villiers read songs of praise for this South African hitter, said something important

Former South African batsman AB de Villiers praised Keegan Petersen in the Test series decider between India and South Africa in Newlands, Cape Town.

Keegan Pietersen, who plays No. 3 in South Africa’s batting order, has been praised by veteran AB de Villiers for his brilliant innings at Newlands. Pietersen scored 72 runs in South Africa’s opening innings and scored his second straight half-century in the series.

De Villiers said: “Kegan Pietersen has done well. I am very excited to see his composure, skill and technique against the best team in the world.”

Significantly, Pietersen played a 72-run inning at the Cape Town Test with excellent control, skill and technique. With Aiden Markram struggling to score runs, he suggested Pietersen could come in as a starter to open innings with the Elgar pattern, so that Markram’s skills can be used in the middle order, when the ball is old. But Peterson disagrees with this suggestion.

Pietersen said: “I like to hit number three. I’ve hit there for most of my career. We have two high-quality starters in terms of losing early ground. They’re having a tough time right now.”
