Aatank Hi Aatank Flop: Aamir-Rajinikanth’s 30-Year-Old Regret Before Coolie Reunion

Get ready, entertainment buffs, because there’s a surprising blast from the past involving two of the biggest names in cinema: Rajinikanth and Aamir Khan. Many are buzzing about Aamir Khan’s special cameo in Rajinikanth’s upcoming action drama, ‘Coolie,’ set to hit theaters on August 14th. Aamir’s new gangster look for ‘Coolie’ is certainly turning heads. But believe it or not, this isn’t the first time these two superstars have shared the screen.

Nearly 30 years ago, Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth acted together in a Hindi action crime drama called ‘Aatank Hi Aatank’. This film, unfortunately, did not do well at the box office. It’s a bit of a forgotten chapter in their careers. So, what was this film about? And why did Aamir Khan, often called “Mr. Perfectionist,” reportedly regret being a part of it? Let’s dive into the details of this lesser-known collaboration.

Why Mr. Perfectionist Regretted the Film

Aamir Khan had the chance to work alongside a legend like Rajinikanth in ‘Aatank Hi Aatank’. Despite this, some reports suggest he wasn’t happy with being in the movie. It’s said that Aamir Khan really didn’t like his own performance in the film. When the movie then flopped badly at the box office, it was a clear sign that audiences didn’t connect with it either.

The Story Behind the Forgotten Film

Director Dilip Shankar drew inspiration from the Hollywood classic ‘The Godfather’ to create ‘Aatank Hi Aatank’. This Hindi action crime drama was released in cinemas in 1995. The movie featured Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, and Juhi Chawla in the main roles.

Even though it had big stars, the film was a major box office failure. Despite its poor performance, it was later dubbed into Tamil in the year 2000. Rajinikanth played a character named Munna. Aamir Khan took on the role of Rohan Singh Thakur. Aamir played the son of a gangster, while Rajinikanth’s character, Munna, was a close aide to the same gangster. The plot revolved around Rohan and Munna seeking revenge after the gangster is attacked by rival gangs. The story wove together themes of crime, love, and family, packed with action scenes for the viewers. Still, the film struggled badly in theaters.
