The world of hero shooters keeps getting bigger. New games pop up, and this can feel like a challenge to established favorites. But the director of Overwatch 2 sees this competition as a good thing for everyone.
Aaron Keller, the game director for Overwatch 2, recently spoke on the Jay3 YouTube channel. He was joined by Conor McLead, who voices the character Hazard. They talked about how Overwatch 2 has grown and changed lately. They also discussed new games in the same genre, like Marvel Rivals, which has been gaining buzz. Keller believes that having more competition in the gaming world is definitely a positive for the industry.

"I think competition is a great thing," Keller said. He explained that it forces everyone to be more creative and do their best work. He made it clear that the new features coming to Overwatch 2 are not a direct answer to Marvel Rivals. He pointed out that many of these changes were planned a long time ago.
Looking Ahead for Overwatch 2
Keller mentioned that Overwatch 2 has a lot more content coming this year. This includes new heroes, a Perk system, and the new Stadium mode. There will also be features like map voting and hero bans. He stressed that all these additions have been in the works for over a year. They are part of a bigger plan for the game throughout the entire year.
One of the interesting upcoming features is the Stadium mode. Keller shared that he thought of this mode even before Overwatch 2 officially launched. The idea actually came from his son. Building and testing a feature like this takes a lot of time, not just a few months.

While the current additions aren’t a direct response, Keller did say that Overwatch 2 might react to Marvel Rivals in the future. "It’s possible that as we keep developing, people might see the bigger picture," Keller added. He thinks this could lead to a point where Overwatch 2 directly competes with other titles.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
