He’s spoken out about a sticky issue brewing between actors and the people who fund their films: who pays for what on set. Khan has openly criticized a growing trend where actors expect producers to cover all sorts of expenses that have nothing to do with the actual movie.
It’s not just big-budget items either. Khan pointed to a surprising list of demands. He noted that some actors now expect producers to pay for their personal chefs, drivers, and even to set up a private kitchen on set. He thinks these requests are totally out of line and unfair to the production team.
Aamir Khan Expresses Surprise
During a chat with industry observer Komal Nahta, Aamir Khan shared his disbelief. “I’ve heard that these days, actors don’t even bother to pay their own drivers,” he explained. “They ask the producers to handle those costs.” The list goes on, according to Khan. “Producers are also paying for the actors’ spot boys. They make producers pay for their cooks.” He added, “Now, they even want a live kitchen right there on set and expect the producer to foot that bill. And don’t forget the multiple vanity vans they ask for, just for a kitchen and a gym.”
Actors Earning Millions Don’t Cover Their Own Expenses?
Khan sounded genuinely baffled by the situation. “These actors are making millions, yet they can’t take care of their own basic needs?” he questioned. “I find this incredibly strange.” He didn’t hold back, calling the practice “very sad and damaging for the industry.” Khan believes it’s a real shame that some actors are still treating their producers and films so unfairly.
Aamir Khan’s Advice to Producers
The 60-year-old actor then offered some clear advice. He stressed that while stars might have certain needs on set related to their work, personal costs are absolutely their own responsibility. Khan, known for his film “Stars on Earth,” shared his own rule. He always covers his family’s expenses when they join him for outdoor shoots.
He believes producers should only pay for what’s truly essential for the film itself. This includes things like makeup, hairstyles, and costumes. Everything else, in his view, should come out of the actor’s own pocket.
