Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has fired back after tweets to boycott his upcoming movie Laal Singh Chaddha became a hot topic.
The Bollywood superstar, who stars in the Hindi remake of Forrest Gump, has also produced the project. When asked how she feels with the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha, Aamir says, “Yeah, I feel sad.”
“I am touched that some people who say this believe in their hearts that I am someone who does not love India. But that’s not true. It’s a shame some people think that way.”
Asking his fans to give his film a fair chance, Aamir added, “Please don’t boycott my film. Please watch my movie.”
The boycott trend emerged after Internet users saw several clips of a 2015 interview and shared the content. In the interview, the actor suggests that his ex-wife, Kiran Rao, felt that they might have to move to another country due to the growing intolerance in the country. Although Aamir tried to save himself by saying that it was wrong to make the statement, the damage had already been done.
