A young American was declared dead due to an overdose and his ashes were given to his relatives, but after a few months they discovered he was alive.
Due to a medical error, Tyler Chase became the protagonist of an incredible story.
September 11th was declared dead by a coroner about an alleged drug overdose.
This young man was reportedly in a drug rehabilitation program and had no contact with his family for several years.
Authorities informed the family of the incident and issued her a death certificate. Tyler's supposed body would have been cremated on October 1st and so they received his ashes in an urn.
Amid their grief over his death, this Oregon family received a call from the coroner's office on December 19th to tell them that Tyler was indeed alive and that they had made a mistake.
In this way, this family received the ashes of another person found dead who had a document with the name Tyler Chase in his wallet.
The young man discovered that he was “dead.”
Tyler didn't figure out what had happened until one day when he realized his food assistance benefits had been cut off.
He then decided to go to a facility and officers were surprised to see a person reported dead in front of them.
“They asked me to register with Social Security…. Suddenly they started questioning me and said, “Can we see your ID?” So I gave it to them and then they looked as confused as me and said, “It says here that you're dead,” the young man said on Fox 12.
Tyler was shocked by the news, but didn't know that his family had received an urn containing his ashes and a death certificate.
The Multnomah County Coroner's Office apologized for the incident and promised to improve its protocols.
“We deeply regret that there was a misidentification. “This all occurred because the deceased individual was carrying Mr. Tyler Chase's wallet and his temporary official Oregon driver's license,” the office said.
Additionally, it was learned that Tyler's family refused to see the body before it was cremated.
Authorities did not release the name of the person who actually died and are in the process of notifying his family.
