A woman will preside over the Employers’ Confederation of the Dominican Republic

The Employers Confederation of the Dominican Republic (Copardom) swore to his new board of directors for the period January 2023 to October 2025, which will be chaired by Laura Peña Izquierdo.

In her swearing-in speech, the new president of Copardom expressed her commitment to the membership and society to exercise and develop initiatives that are beneficial for the progress and well-being of the country.

“We face major political, social and economic challenges in which more and more actions are expected from the business community that contribute to making our country a territory of opportunities and equality for all”, said Peña Izquierdo

He highlighted that Copardom, in its 77 years of service, is and will continue to be the active voice that provides solutions on the transcendental issues related to the system of socio-labor relations and Social Securityhewithin the framework of respect for the Constitution, international treaties and the laws of the Dominican Republic.

“Efforts will be directed to the most relevant issues such as the Labor Code, so that its reform can be completed quickly, which must consider the current and future needs regarding new technologies, the adequacy of the working day and the review of the costs derived from the employment relationship, among others”.

He stressed the importance of consolidate and strengthen the Dominican Social Security Systemthe country’s greatest social conquest and which has been a mechanism par excellence to alleviate poverty, prevent exclusion, promote social inclusion and boost the economy.

“Like any law, it has an opportunity for improvement. However, there are aspects that are cited in the law, that require the will to implement and that would undoubtedly translate into great benefits for members and I am referring specifically to the implementation of Primary Care and the implementation of the Subsidized Contributory Regime ”, emphasized the new president of Copardom.

He stated that Copardom’s vision is and should always be towards the Consolidation of achievements and reaching new goalsas the Zero Bureaucracyin pursuit of efficiency, agility and transparency, but also the focus on education and professional technical training, the bridge par excellence for the insertion of young people in the labor market, with more and better opportunities for internships and jobs .

Laura Peña Izquierdo highlighted the great work done by all the managers who preceded him in the leadership of Copardom, for his dedication and dedication to the service of the organization and its members, highlighting the important contributions to the development and strengthening of the productive sector and Dominican working class.
