A woman in Turkey sued her husband for divorce because she didn’t bathe daily and take care of her personal hygiene.
Lawyers argued that the man wore the same clothes for at least five days in a row, did not bathe frequently, brushed once or twice a week and constantly smelled of sweat.
According to several Turkish media outlets, the case went to a court, which ruled in the woman’s favor and approved the separation.
In addition, the court ordered the husband to compensate his wife 500,000 Turkish lira ($16,500) for enduring her poor personal hygiene.

The case was so relevant that she decided to bring in some witnesses to corroborate her statement.
The divorce was justified
The woman’s lawyer, Senem Yılmazel, said that couples must fulfill the responsibilities of living together and that if there are problems, one of the parties has the right to ask for a divorce.
“Colleagues from the defendant’s workplace came to court as witnesses. “They said he smelled like sweat at work and wore the same clothes for five days in a row,” he explained. to the Sabah newspaper.
According to the expert, there are two specific and general grounds for divorce in the law. The latter includes all things or behavior that lead to an unbearable coexistence.
In the present case, the reason was that the woman could no longer tolerate her husband’s lack of personal hygiene.
“If life together becomes unbearable due to behavior, the other party has the right to file a lawsuit… The reason in the divorce lawsuit we filed for our client was that the other party did not pay attention to personal hygiene,” he said.
Although the names of those involved are unknown, the case was decided in the first instance by a regional court and the decision was finalized by Turkey’s Supreme Court of Appeal.
