“A very different challenge”

Bahrain was the confirmation of the miracle, of that giant step that has led to Aston Martin from being the seventh team in 2022 to having the second best car in the race only behind Red Bull. Crazy. But now, once the most difficult thing has been done, you have to stay there on circuits of all kinds, on those that are favorable for the AMR23 but above all on those that don’t do so well. AND this weekend is a golden opportunity to prove it in Saudi Arabia, where they arrive in high spirits after Alonso’s podium in Sakhir.

“The car felt very good in Bahrain and we enjoyed the weekend, but now we have shifted all our focus to Jeddah”, the Spaniard focuses on the preview of the British team knowing how important this second round is, because “it will be a very different challenge” in “a completely different circuit”, much faster: “We spent two weeks in Bahrain and we all familiarized ourselves with the circuit and the conditions, so the learning curve starting this Friday will be much steeper.”

However, Alonso believes that we will have to wait one more race to have a more defined picture of the situation on the grid: “Realistically, I don’t think until after Australia we will know better where the overall performance is, since by then we will have had three very different race weekends on varied circuits”. “We have our feet on the ground and hard work is needed to maintain this start and try to get another good result this weekend”, concludes the two-time champion.

Stroll, keep up the momentum

For his part, Stroll, who achieved an outstanding sixth place in Bahrain after having recently operated on his wrist injuries, makes an analysis similar to that of his partner at the Saudi Arabian GP: “I am really pleased with our performance in Bahrain, so we must do everything we can to carry that positive momentum into the second race of the year. The circuit is completely different, so it offers us an unbeatable opportunity to collect more data and deepen our understanding of the AMR23.”
