A rental utility vehicle crashed into a security barrier set up near the White House on the edge of Lafayette Square in Washington (United States) on Monday evening. The driver was arrested, US intelligence said. He could have intentionally run into the protections, said Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for the Secret Service, on Twitter the same day.
An investigation has been launched and legal action will be taken on the incident, he explained on the social network. The secret services for their part let it be known that the incident had not injured their group. The area where the collision occurred has several luxury hotels.
A thorough search
The police would have asked customers of these establishments to evacuate the premises. The suspect’s vehicle was searched. Local authorities did not give information on what was found on board. CBS affiliate WUSA9, however, reported that a flag resembling a Nazi flag was found in the truck.
