A suicide blast in a mosque in Afghanistan killed 18 people, including a religious leader

Kabul: 18 people, including a well-known religious leader, were killed and many were injured in a suicide attack during Friday prayers in Herat province, Afghanistan.

According to a foreign media report, a powerful explosion occurred at the door of a mosque in Afghanistan’s Herat province, in which eighteen worshipers, including the Taliban supporter and renowned religious scholar Maulvi Mujib Ansari, were killed.

According to the report, the suicide attack was carried out at the gate of the Herat city Ghazrgah mosque when Mujibur Rahman Ansari arrived there along with his bodyguards.

After the blast, a scene of Qayamat Sughra was created in the mosque, chaos erupted everywhere, the injured started wailing and people started running here and there.

According to media reports, immediately after the explosion, Taliban personnel surrounded the scene of the incident, while rescue teams shifted the martyred and injured in the explosion to a nearby hospital.

Local authorities in Herat confirmed the death of Maulvi Mujibur Rahman Ansari, saying that the explosion was caused by a suicide attack inside the mosque during Friday prayers.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also expressed regret over the death of prominent religious scholar Maulvi Mujibur Rehman Ansari and said that those responsible for the blast will be held accountable.
