A Peruvian congressman was denounced for rape of a Parliament employee

Peruvian congressman Freddy Díaz Monago was denounced for rape by a worker in his office and immediately expelled from his Alliance for Progress (APP) party. The Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations (MIMP) reported this Thursday that immediate support was provided to the victim and asked the Prosecutor’s Office to act quickly in the case.

The sexual assault would have occurred on Wednesday night in the offices of Díaz, in a building that belongs to the Parliament in the center of Lima. The worker and the 37-year-old legislator were drinking alcohol, according to the newspaper Trade.

Díaz was president of the commission in charge of the election of the Ombudsman, whose work has been in the midst of great controversy due to the rejection of the candidates previously selected by that parliamentary group. The APP party announced the expulsion of Díaz from its ranks and requested his immediate removal from immunity.
