A misunderstanding leaves Marseille out of Europe

Olympique de Marseille was one of the many teams that said goodbye to all of European football on Tuesday. Everything had to be resolved in group D of the Champions League and the worst part was for the French. These fell in their clash against Tottenham due to a late goal by Hojberg and were left out of the knockout stages of the Champions League and also the Europa League.

This could have been avoided by achieving a draw taking into account the result that minutes before the Dane’s goal was signed between Sporting and Eintracht, with the Germans qualified to continue in the European Cup and Sporting going to the second continental competition. The problem? None of the eleven Marseille players who were on the green knew that the tie was worth them.

Very frankly, Chancel Mbemba recognized him after the end of the meeting. “On the pitch we didn’t know it, but on the bench, yes. There was no communication. We are angry about what happened, but we didn’t know it. It is our fault ”, the central assured in RMC Sport.

According to Igor Tudor, coach of Marseille, there was part of the will of the bench not to communicate it and also a certain mess between them. “There was a lot of noise, a lot of confusion in the last few minutes. We wanted them to focus on the match and not on anything else,” he confessed.

The misunderstanding will be celebrated in north London with Tottenham ranked first in the group with 11 points. Eintracht will accompany him to the round of 16. This mess also ended with good news for Sporting, who with just one point more than Marseille, got into the Europa League.
