A man faked a kidnapping so he could continue partying in Thailand

A 48-year-old British man decided to fake a kidnapping and tried to extort money from his own family in order to get more money and continue to enjoy his trip to Thailand.

Ian Robbie Day had one of the best experiences of his life in Pattaya, the Thai party city.

But his money was running out and he no longer found funds to spend on alcohol, banned substances and shows and spectacles of all kinds.

However, Ian came up with the idea of pretending to be kidnapped to get money and convinced his friends to beat him and pretend to be criminals in order to send some pictures to his relatives and ask them for money to beg to keep him alive.

In this way, this man faked his own kidnapping, and when his relatives saw the photos, they panicked and notified the authorities.

“When his family stopped supporting him, he organized the kidnapping, that was the reason he did it. He asked his family to send him money, but they said no,” said Sorasak Saengcha, a police lieutenant colonel who led the investigation and search for the man.

The case reached such proportions that the International Police (Interpol) began investigating the incident and, together with the Thai authorities, formed a team that managed to find him in a hotel in Pattaya.

The uniformed officers were surprised because instead of a tied up and defenseless man, they saw a drunk and drugged tourist next to his alleged kidnappers.

These individuals have been arrested and face charges of carrying weapons and illegal substances; and for exceeding the permitted length of stay on their visa.
