A man allegedly kills his wife and six-month-old daughter in Honduras

A man allegedly killed his wife and six-month-old daughter this Saturday in a house in the department of Santa Bárbara, in western Honduras, and fled after committing the crime, an official source reported.

Cindy Enamorado, 25, and her six-month-old daughter Nohemí, were allegedly murdered in the community of San Juan by the husband and father of the victims, whose whereabouts and identity are unknown, according to a brief police report.

The National Police, who cordoned off the area, are investigating the double crime, but so far have not determined the motive.

The crime caused a stir in Santa Bárbara, whose residents demand that the National Police capture the suspect.

The criminal violence suffered by Honduras leaves an average of between ten and thirteen deaths per day, according to official sources.

The number of women murdered in Honduras exceeds 150 so far in 2022, according to figures from feminist organizations in the Central American country.

According to the Center for Women’s Rights (CDM, private), 44.5% of the murdered women were between 20 and 49 years old, and 18.2% were under 19 years old.

In all of 2021, 318 women were murdered in the country, in most cases killed with a firearm, according to the Violence Observatory of the National Autonomous University of Honduras.

According to figures from the Observatory of Violence, 4,216 women died violently in the country between 2012 and 2020, of these cases 61% (2,572) are femicides and the majority occurred in the environment close to the victim, in which the main aggressor is a man romantically linked to the woman.

95% of the cases of murdered women remain unpunished in Honduras, according to official data and feminist organizations.
