A collection of donations in the form of an auction took place last Thursday at the Tate Modern gallery in London. The event was hosted by the Ukrainian Embassy in the UK. Objective: to collect donations for Ukraine and in particular to re-equip a children’s hospital in the west of the country, according to Point which reports information from CNN.

Among the lots offered, a fleece jacket totally drove the counters crazy. This was sold for 90,000 pounds sterling, or nearly 105,000 euros. But this jacket did not belong to just anyone. It was worn and signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Toys donated by Ukraine’s First Lady

The organizers of this auction wanted to “tell the stories of bravery of these Ukrainians who became iconic during the war”, explains the embassy in a Twitter post. Volodymyr Zelensky even spoke during the event, as well as Boris Johnson, British Prime Minister. “It is an honor to speak after my friend Volodymyr Zelensky, one of the greatest leaders of modern times,” he said. Boris Johnson added that he was “more certain than ever” that Ukraine would win this war.

Several other objects were offered during the auction. Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine, had notably offered toys. Snapshots by photographer Max Levine were also offered for sale. The latter was killed in Ukraine while covering fighting near kyiv as a photojournalist. Posthumously, he received an award representing courage. The medal was presented to the photographer’s mother by Volodymyr Zelensky.
