A Fire Forestry devastated several nearby acres Carrasco airport, in Canelones, this Wednesday. There were no casualties or damage to homes or buildings.
The fire, which broke out around 2 p.m., was just meters from the airport runway but was brought under control.
“Several firefighters responded to the scene to stop the fire from spreading. Assistance was requested from the Air Force, which carried out water discharges using a helicopter to contain the advance of the flames,” firefighters said.
At some point in the afternoon, the fire spread to a swampy area, making access very difficult for firefighters, the facility said. The fire was re-ignited in the night but was later brought under control, police sources said Underlined. Check out the videos Here.
Early in the morning, troops carried out cooling operations. “Monitoring of the affected area will continue in the morning,” the report continued.
Firefighters will later investigate how the fire started and whether there was a human factor. There is a “very high risk of fire” in large parts of Uruguay. Open fires and burning are prohibited.
