World Cup 2023
Ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup, there is a dispute between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Please inform us that the Indian team will not travel to Pakistan for the Asian Cup. For this reason, Pakistan also refuses to send its team to India for the World Cup. Meanwhile, another update on Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup has emerged.
A Pakistani security delegation will visit India
The PCB is expected to get approval to send the national team to the World Over-50s Championship. Before that, however, a security delegation will visit India and give their approval. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has set up a committee to review and decide on India’s representation at the World Cup. The committee, chaired by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, will meet for the first time on Thursday.
Zaka Ashraf will also attend
Zaka Ashraf, Chair of the PCB Management Committee, will also attend the meeting. A source close to the committee said the committee is expected to recommend that a high-level security delegation visit India to inspect all the venues for Pakistan’s World Cup matches and review security and other arrangements. Various ministers and advisers have found a place in this 14-strong body. In addition to foreign ministers, interior ministers, justice ministers, inter-provincial coordination ministers, information and broadcasting ministers, advisers on Kashmir affairs and foreign ministers, representatives of intelligence services and other sensitive departments are also represented.
Cricket has not taken place since 2012/13
The source said that in principle there are no objections to Pakistan playing in India, but the committee wants to be reassured that players, officials, fans and media will not face any problems. Pakistan last traveled through India for the 2016 T20 World Cup. Bilateral cricket between the two countries has not taken place since 2012–13 and the last series of Tests was held in India in 2007.
