A Colombian court orders the house arrest of President Iván Duque for contempt

Un tribunal colombiano ordena el arresto domiciliario del presidente Iván Duque por desacato

The Administrative Court of Magdalena has imposed a fine equivalent to the value of two current monthly legal minimum wages commutable with two-day house arrest for Colombian President Iván Duque and the Minister of Culture, Angélica Mayolo, for contempt.

The order is based on contempt for the ruling of that same court that ordered them to issue the Decree through which the Fifth Centennial Master Plan of Santa Marta is adopted, in accordance with what was passed in Law 2058 of 2020.

The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation is also ordered to serve to initiate and carry out the disciplinary investigations that may arise due to the breach of the court order issued by the constitutional judge.

The unfulfilled sentence is dated June 1, 2021 and was confirmed by the Council of State on June 24 of that same year.

The Preparatory Commission for the Fifth Centenary of Santa Marta, to be held in July year 2025, is formed and has approved internal regulations.
