The Movistar team has announced this Wednesday what is possibly its most brilliant addition for the 2022 season: that of the Gipuzkoan cyclist Alex Aranburu, one of the most versatile Spanish riders in the peloton. Aranburu, 26, arrives from the Astana team, where he has played for the last two seasons, and signs with Movistar until the end of 2024.
After the incorporation of Óscar Rodríguez, Aranburu’s current teammate at Astana, and Max Kanter, Movistar is also reinforced with Aranburu, a true off-road cyclist capable of shining in wall tests like in the great classics of the calendar thanks to its top speed, in addition to defending well against the clock.
These qualities have resulted in great results for the Basque cyclist, who this year has been Top-10 in events such as Omloop Het Nieusblad (sixth), Milan-San Remo (seventh), in four stages of the Dauphiné and in another two of the Tour de France, in addition to having won a stage in the Tour of the Basque Country and be third in the Marco Pantani Memorial. However, a fall left him without options in the last Flanders World Cup, where he started as the great Spanish asset with Iván García Cortina, with whom he will share a team willing to make Movistar shine in the Flanders classics in the coming seasons.
In statements collected by the Movistar team, Aranburu himself showed his enthusiasm for his signing. “I am very happy to confirm that the next three seasons I will be in the home team, which is the Movistar Team. I already know quite a few people from the team and I think we will have a very good atmosphere among the teammates. I am very excited. to face the next seasons, in which I want to continue growing as a cyclist and as a person. I hope to be able to improve a little every year, as it has been up to now, and that together we can achieve beautiful things “.
