Jason Faulkner, the brother of an Irish woman who died following a severe assault, was found dead over the weekend, just two days after serving as a pallbearer at her funeral.
The discovery compounds a devastating month for the family of 16 siblings. Jason’s sister, 29-year-old Scarlett Faulkner, died on Monday, April 13, 2026. Medical staff at Cork University Hospital withdrew life support weeks after she sustained severe physical trauma. Police allege she was attacked with an iron bar on March 21 along the R494 road near Birdhill, County Tipperary.
Two suspects, a 40-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, face charges in connection with the assault. They remain on remand. Both are scheduled to appear before the Tipperary District Court in Nenagh on April 23.
Scarlett was buried on Friday, April 17, following a service at St Munchin’s Church in Limerick. Jason, who was in his 30s, carried his sister’s coffin. He passed away abruptly over the weekend.
The siblings’ cousin, Melissa McCarthy, publicly confirmed the second death. She described the utter devastation now facing the family.
Authorities have not released a cause of death for Jason Faulkner. An Irish Garda spokeswoman confirmed the coroner has been notified. A post-mortem examination is pending.
The rapid succession of deaths has drawn significant public attention, pushing this localized tragedy into the focus of the wider world as authorities continue to process the two separate investigations.
