Joey Spallina breaks Syracuse points record as No. 5 Orange crush Colgate 14-7

The No. 5 Syracuse men’s lacrosse team dismantled the Colgate Raiders 14-7 on Saturday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. History was made. The victory sealed a perfect 2026 home slate for the Orange. But the night belonged entirely to senior Joey Spallina.

Spallina recorded two goals and five assists. A first-quarter feed to Michael Leo secured his 308th career point. That specific assist broke the program’s all-time points record. He officially surpassed the legendary Mike Powell, who held the top spot with 307 points since 2004.

The offense fired on all cylinders. Attackers Michael Leo and Finn Thomson were relentless. They each netted four goals and provided one assist, driving the 14-7 final score. Colgate dropped to 5-7 overall. The Raiders tried to disrupt Syracuse’s clears with a frantic 10-man riding strategy. It worked in bursts. Hunter Drouin led the visitors with one goal and two assists. Goaltender Andrew Lehrman registered 12 saves.

It wasn’t enough to stop the Orange. Jimmy McCool anchored the Syracuse defense. The goaltender racked up 10 saves with a .588 save percentage. He slammed the door completely with a full fourth-quarter shutout.

Shattering Powell’s 2004 record carries massive weight. Spallina just rewrote the history books at one of the nation’s most storied lacrosse programs, a feat decades in the making. Syracuse now sits at 11-3 with a 2-1 ACC record. The Orange pack their bags for South Bend next to close out the regular season against Notre Dame.
