The long-simmering neighborhood tensions surrounding Fripps Farm have officially spilled over into criminal court. Former glamour model and television personality Jodie Marsh appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 17, 2026, and pleaded not guilty to common assault. The 47-year-old stands accused of beating a man named Christopher Hynes during a January altercation at her Essex animal sanctuary. She also entered not guilty pleas for two additional counts of using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behavior to provoke violence against Hynes and a second alleged victim, Susan Hammond.
Deputy District Judge Rhys Rosser released her on unconditional bail. The formal trial is now scheduled for May 7, 2027 at the Colchester Magistrates’ Court. It is a massive delay. It leaves her 3.5-acre rescue operation in a prolonged state of legal limbo.
The criminal charges stem from an incident on January 16, 2026. Authorities from the Essex Police confirmed the winter altercation took place directly at the Lindsell property. Marsh founded the sanctuary in 2020. She partially funds the care of over 250 animals, including emus, alpacas, and lemurs, through her OnlyFans account. But the sanctuary has severely strained her relationship with the local community.
This is not just a minor dispute in the entertainment world. It is the boiling point of a multi-year community feud. In 2025, Marsh entered a bitter legal fight with the Uttlesford District Council after they rejected her wild animal licence application. She blamed that rejection on local community complaints and online harassment.
She ultimately won the appeal to keep her exotic animals. But the judge presiding over that civil case explicitly warned of the “considerable animosity” between Marsh and the surrounding local residents. Now, those exact community hostilities have escalated into a criminal trial. With the court date pushed out over a full year to May 2027, the day-to-day operations at Fripps Farm face an incredibly hostile local environment for the foreseeable future.
