The streaming landscape just experienced a massive seismic shift. Ranveer Singh’s espionage blockbuster Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is officially skipping Netflix. JioHotstar has secured the exclusive digital rights to the film in a record-breaking acquisition.
The move comes as the Indian box office undergoes a complete realignment. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the sequel has utterly dominated theaters since its March 19 release. Now in its 21st day, the 229-minute action epic has amassed a staggering Rs 1,041.27 crore in net domestic collections. Globally, that number sits at Rs 1,653.67 crore. Theatrical occupancy remains massive.
Fans are still driving the film’s theatrical momentum, especially after the studio dropped a highly demanded Qawwali sequence to keep the hype train moving. But the battle for its home release is already over.
Netflix hosted the original 2025 film. They will not get the sequel. JioHotstar acquired the digital streaming rights for a premium estimated between ₹120 crore and ₹150 crore, according to a detailed report released on Thursday.
Fans asking about the exact dhurandhar 2 ott release date will have to wait a little longer. JioHotstar is actively holding the film back. They plan to delay the digital premiere until late May or early June 2026. The strategy is simple. They refuse to let the movie cannibalize viewership during the ongoing IPL 2026 cricket tournament.

How JioHotstar’s ₹150 Crore Gambit Rewrites the Streaming Wars
This acquisition is a massive blow to Netflix’s retention strategy in India. Losing a direct sequel to a massive hit breaks the usual continuity fans expect on a single platform. JioHotstar didn’t just buy a movie. They bought a cultural phenomenon.
The historical context of this box office run cannot be overstated. Dhurandhar 2 is officially the first Hindi-language film in history to cross the Rs 1,000 crore net milestone within India. It shattered the lifetime domestic haul of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
Currently, Singh’s undercover Karachi saga sits as the second-highest-grossing film domestically of all time. It trails only Pushpa 2. By paying top dollar and intentionally holding the release until the IPL concludes, JioHotstar is treating this not just as a content drop, but as a secondary theatrical event meant to dominate the summer.
