Olivia Munn reveals the exhausting reality behind her 0% breast cancer risk score

In early 2024, Olivia Munn shocked the public by revealing a devastating breast cancer diagnosis she had battled in secret for a year. The actress underwent four major surgeries in just ten months to halt an aggressive, fast-moving strain. Now, three years after that initial 2023 discovery, she is facing a new reality. On Sunday, she confirmed her cancer risk score is officially zero. But the daily physical toll is far from over.

Munn sat down with Tracy Smith on CBS Sunday Morning on March 29. She detailed the severe side effects of her ongoing hormone suppression therapy. The actress is currently enduring a strict five-year medication regimen. The treatment is relentless. She experiences full-body aches and debilitating exhaustion, according to a detailed report published over the weekend. She recently went several days without any sleep at all.

The Luminal B cancer was caught in April 2023. This happened solely because her doctor calculated her Tyrer-Cuzick risk score. Standard mammograms and genetic tests missed the cancer entirely. Munn tested negative for 90 different cancer-related genes, including BRCA. Her doctor’s proactive math returned an alarming 37.3 percent risk level and prompted a biopsy. This aggressive medical intervention rocked the entertainment industry. It quickly turned Munn into a fierce, vocal advocate for women demanding their own proactive risk assessments.

Munn opted for a partial hysterectomy alongside a double mastectomy. She made this specific choice to avoid the extreme energy-draining effects of the estrogen-suppressing drug Lupron. She wanted to remain a present mother. Despite the intense physical drain of her current medications, her perspective is intensely positive. She told Smith she feels “lucky” to be alive.

She called the absolute chaos of navigating treatment while raising her toddler Malcolm and newborn daughter Méi a “true privilege.” She credited her husband, comedian John Mulaney, for carrying the burden. Mulaney became her primary anchor. He proactively managed her care by filling a notebook with complex medical details and jokes to keep her grounded during the darkest days of her recovery.
