The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has officially confirmed the death of its naval commander, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri. State media reported Monday that Tangsiri succumbed to severe injuries sustained during an Israeli military strike in Bandar Abbas.
The assassination is a direct escalation of the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran. The broader conflict began on February 28 with coordinated strikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. A sustained military campaign is actively targeting Iran’s senior leadership and critical infrastructure.
The attack on Tangsiri occurred early Thursday morning in the southern port city. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed responsibility. They stated Tangsiri and several top naval aides were eliminated in the strike.
The confirmation was carried by Iran’s state-affiliated Sepah News and Fars News Agency, according to a detailed report verified by international news agencies like AFP and Reuters.

Tangsiri took command of the IRGC Navy in 2018. He was the primary architect behind the recent mining and blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
By shutting down this critical maritime corridor, Tangsiri’s forces deliberately triggered a massive global energy crisis. The strait processes nearly 20% of global oil shipments. The blockade was a direct countermeasure against the US-Israeli offensive.
The regional crisis is rapidly expanding outside of Iranian borders. Over the weekend, an Iranian retaliatory drone strike targeted a combined power and water desalination plant in Kuwait. The attack killed one Indian worker and damaged the facility.
