Dresden Tram Museum kicks off 2026 season with historic city tours

It is officially spring in Germany, and that means the city’s massive transport heritage is waking up from its winter hiatus. The Dresden Tram Museum is currently running its highly anticipated 2026 Spring Opening Days this weekend. But this is not just a static display. Volunteers are actually driving these massive pieces of history right through the active city rail network.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. You can catch special passenger roundtrips heading straight into the inner city aboard the classic MAN-Zug 734-1029 or the beloved Tatra-Zug 2000-222 998, according to a detailed report released by regional broadcaster MDR. Other routes are pushing out into the western districts using a Tatra T6A2 and a Großraum T4-61.

If you are planning some European travel this season, this is exactly the kind of hyper-local experience you want. The museum itself is based in the Trachenberge depot. That is a massive brick structure originally built back in 1900. It is completely run by a non-profit association of volunteers who spend their free time keeping over 40 historic vehicles alive. Their collection covers everything from original 1902 Berolina power cars to late-Soviet era transit.

Ground access to the depot halls is open all weekend. You can check out vintage buses like the IFA H6, try your hand at a tram driving simulator, or just grab a coffee at the museum café. Adult tickets are just €5. Kids between 6 and 14 get in for €3. You can also grab a full family pass for €12. It is a cheap, incredibly hands-on way to spend an afternoon in Saxony.
