The final week of March is delivering a massive slate of South Indian cinema to digital platforms. Driven by the consistently high viewer demand for localized content across the subcontinent, major streaming services are rolling out a heavy-hitting lineup of thrillers and comedies. The anchor of this weekend’s drop is the highly anticipated Malayalam crime thriller Valathu Vashathe Kallan.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jeethu Joseph, the film officially premiered today on Manorama Max. It stars Biju Menon and Joju George. Fans of Malayalam cinema have been waiting for this specific drop, and it sets the tone for the rest of the weekend’s entertainment slate.
Over on JioHotstar, Tamil viewers are getting a dark investigative mystery. Kaattaan also debuts today. Led by Vijay Sethupathi, the series centers around the grim discovery of a severed head in a remote village. It is a sharp pivot from the usual weekend streaming fare.
That platform already had a massive Thursday release. The rural Tamil comedy Thaai Kizhavi hit JioHotstar yesterday. Directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, it features Radikaa Sarathkumar playing a fearless 70-year-old moneylender. The movie is transitioning to streaming after a massive theatrical run earlier this year where it grossed nearly Rs 67.99 crore globally according to The Economic Times.
Meanwhile, Telugu audiences are getting the dark comedy Sampradayini Suppini Suddapoosani starring Sivaji. That film began its official streaming rollout across March 26 and 27 on ETV Win.
