On Tuesday, Porter Airlines officially announced it will serve as the launch carrier for the newly developed Montreal Metropolitan Airport, introducing a direct route from Edmonton International Airport. Starting June 16, 2026, the airline will operate seven new weekly flights connecting the two cities, marking a significant expansion of domestic air transit options for Canadian passengers.
The Edmonton connection is part of a broader network rollout comprising 12 new domestic routes scheduled to begin operations from the Longueuil-based facility. Flights connecting the new terminal to major hubs including Calgary, Vancouver, and Halifax are slated to commence a day earlier on June 15, 2026.
The introduction of these routes coincides with the public opening of the Montreal Metropolitan Airport, a half-billion-dollar revitalization of the historic Saint-Hubert Airport. Engineered to complement existing regional infrastructure, the 21,000-square-meter terminal is designed to accommodate up to four million passengers annually. It features nine boarding gates, a 900-seat lounge, and an express shuttle linking travelers directly to the local metro system. Passengers looking to book flights for the upcoming summer season can currently access the new itineraries through standard ticketing platforms.
This infrastructure development represents a major shift in the regional aviation market, providing Greater Montreal with a second major commercial hub. Porter Airlines Chief Executive Officer Michael Deluce addressed the expansion on Tuesday, describing the new terminal as an “exceptional private investment in transportation infrastructure that Greater Montreal will benefit from for generations.”
By establishing operations at both the new facility and the existing Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, Porter is executing a 91 percent increase in its peak summer capacity within the Montreal market. The airline will manage up to 244 weekly departures from the city across its expanded network, fundamentally altering travel logistics for passengers navigating eastern Canada.
