NRL Hands Isaiah Iongi Suspended Ban Over Substance Photos

Parramatta Eels fullback Isaiah Iongi has been issued a one-game suspended ban by the National Rugby League following an Integrity Unit investigation into controversial photographs that surfaced online last month. The breach notice, handed down on Monday, allows the player to remain eligible for selection when Parramatta faces the Penrith Panthers this upcoming weekend.

The sanction stems from images circulated widely across social media platforms in late February. The photographs depicted the Eels star appearing to prepare a suspicious substance near what looked like drug paraphernalia.

Parramatta management proactively contacted the NRL Integrity Unit immediately after becoming aware of the images to address the situation ahead of the 2026 season launch.

Following the investigation, the governing body determined that the images were taken several years ago, well before Iongi’s breakout 2025 campaign. Because there were no assertions of ongoing unlawful behavior or formal police involvement, the NRL opted for a suspended sanction rather than an immediate standing down.

Iongi, who joined Parramatta from Penrith and recently secured a long-term contract extension keeping him with the club until 2030, has five business days to formally respond to the breach notice.

The suspended nature of the penalty means Iongi will not miss any immediate playing time in the competitive world of professional sports, provided he commits no further infractions.

If the fullback breaches NRL behavioral guidelines again, the one-match suspension will be immediately activated alongside any additional penalties the league deems appropriate.
