Spider-Man Trailer Reveals Human Bruce Banner Return

The first trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” hit the internet on March 18, and Mark Ruffalo is officially back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe—just without the green CGI. The new footage confirms Bruce Banner has ditched his “Smart Hulk” persona, appearing as a regular human ahead of the film’s July 31 theatrical release.

Banner’s lack of gamma radiation resolves some lingering continuity confusion that has trailed the character since his brief post-credits cameo in 2021’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.” The human form directly ties back to the 2022 Disney+ series “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” where Banner wore a prototype gamma inhibitor device on his arm to suppress his mutations.

Keeping Ruffalo out of the motion-capture suit serves a highly practical purpose behind the scenes. Entertainment analysts note that utilizing a human Banner saves Marvel Studios the steep visual effects costs required to continuously render a massive CGI Hulk on screen.

The Banner reveal is wrapped inside a larger narrative teasing mutating DNA within Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. The trailer also delivers the first on-screen MCU interaction between Holland’s web-slinger and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle.
