A shooting at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico on Tuesday left one person dead and another injured. Military officials placed the installation on lockdown at approximately 5:30 p.m. local time following reports of an active shooter.
The 49th Wing confirmed the lockdown was lifted Tuesday evening after security forces secured the scene and determined there was no further threat to personnel. The wounded individual was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
Military officials have not released the identities of the victims or specified whether they were civilian employees or military personnel. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and the investigation remains active.
The 93-square-mile installation supports national security operations and trains combat-ready airmen. Security protocols across the world are routinely reviewed following fatal incidents on military installations. Federal authorities are expected to lead the investigation into the shooting.
