Raphinha Hat-Trick Powers Barcelona Past Sevilla 5-2

FC Barcelona defeated Sevilla 5-2 at the Camp Nou on Sunday to maintain their four-point lead atop the La Liga standings. Brazilian winger Raphinha recorded a hat-trick while midfielder Gavi made his official return to the pitch after a 204-day injury absence.

The Matchday 28 victory reinforces Barcelona’s dominance in Spanish sports, pushing the club to 70 points for the season. Manager Hansi Flick heavily rotated his squad, resting key starters like Lamine Yamal ahead of the club’s upcoming Champions League Round of 16 second-leg tie against Newcastle United. Roony Bardghji earned the start in Yamal’s place on a day that also saw club members voting in presidential elections off the pitch.

Raphinha opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a Panenka penalty kick. He converted a second penalty in the 21st minute. Both early spot-kicks were won by aggressive forward runs from João Cancelo. Dani Olmo extended the lead to three in the 38th minute before Sevilla defender Oso pulled a goal back just before halftime.

Raphinha completed his hat-trick in the 50th minute via a deflected strike. Cancelo then scored his own goal in the 60th minute to cap his highly influential performance. Sevilla midfielder Djibril Sow added a second consolation goal for the visitors deep into stoppage time.

The second half also featured Gavi’s return to competitive play following his extensive injury layoff. The midfielder was handed the captain’s armband immediately upon entering the pitch to close out the 5-2 win.
