Prince William Shares Unseen 1984 Photo Of Princess Diana

On Sunday, March 15, 2026, Prince William released a previously unseen photograph of himself with his late mother, Princess Diana, to mark the United Kingdom’s observance of Mothering Sunday. The image was posted to the official Prince and Princess of Wales social media accounts earlier in the day.

The 1984 photograph, sourced directly from the royal family’s private collection, shows a two-year-old Prince William sitting with Diana in a field of wildflowers and poppies at the family’s Highgrove House estate in Gloucestershire.

The Prince of Wales personally signed off on the caption accompanying the release, writing, “Remembering my mother, today and every day. Thinking of all those who are remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day. W.”

Princess Diana died at the age of 36 in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997. Prince William was 15 years old at the time, and his brother, Prince Harry, was 12. Diana would have turned 65 on July 1 of this year.

The broader British royal family also participated in the 2026 holiday, which falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent in the Christian liturgical calendar. King Charles III and Queen Camilla posted their own archival tributes honoring their late mothers, sharing vintage photographs of Queen Elizabeth II and Rosalind Shand. Catherine, Princess of Wales, did not release a separate public Mother’s Day message this year.
