Sebastian Bach Apologizes Over Christina Applegate VMA Fling

Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach has publicly apologized following revelations in actress Christina Applegate’s newly released memoir regarding their brief 1989 fling. Speaking to Billboard in an interview aggregated by E! News, the 57-year-old rocker addressed the infamous night at the MTV Video Music Awards when a 17-year-old Applegate ditched a pre-fame Brad Pitt to leave with him.

Bach expressed surprise that the decades-old story had resurfaced in Applegate’s March 2026 book, “You With the Sad Eyes.” He offered a general mea culpa for his behavior during his band’s commercial peak, noting the chaotic nature of his youth in the heavy metal scene.

“I was a single guy on tour, in a band, and I met a lot of girls, and I apologize if I hurt her… if I hurt anybody,” Bach told Billboard. He likened his early career to a “whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll” and a fast-paced roller coaster.

The apology provides the other side of a long-standing pop culture mystery. In her memoir, the 54-year-old “Dead to Me” star detailed attending the 1989 awards ceremony with a 26-year-old Pitt. Despite arriving together, Applegate spent the evening fixated on the heavy metal vocalist and ultimately abandoned the future Oscar winner to leave the venue with Bach.

Pitt was reportedly left to drive Applegate’s mother home alone. According to Applegate’s written account, the two actors did not speak for several years before eventually reconciling, with Pitt agreeing to forgive the teenager who dumped him for the Skid Row singer.

Despite the dramatic exit, the romance between Applegate and Bach was short-lived and did not become physical. Applegate wrote that she felt out of control and deeply regretted the decision after discovering the then-21-year-old Bach already had a long-term partner and a one-year-old child.

While Applegate currently promotes her memoir and discusses her journey with multiple sclerosis, Bach recently kicked off a 2026 solo tour. The vocalist was also recently announced as the new frontman for Twisted Sister following Dee Snider’s departure.
