Ukraine Egg Prices Hit 88 UAH Ahead Of Easter 2026 As Oil Spikes

A sharp spike in demand for chicken eggs ahead of Easter Sunday 2026 is driving prices significantly higher across Ukraine, as seasonal purchasing collides with escalating logistics and fuel expenses. The price surge is directly tied to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has pushed global fuel market costs toward $120 per barrel and amplified transport bills for agricultural producers.

Supermarket online price checks conducted on March 11 showed elevated entry prices for egg packs, severely pressuring household food budgets. Retail prices for a standard pack ranged from 65.91 UAH at Silpo to as high as 88.20 UAH at MegaMarket, according to regional outlets including RBC-Ukraine and Agronews.ua.

Logistics And Fuel Pressures

The Ukrainian food market entered March with increased price sensitivity. The Ukrainian National News reported that February inflation accelerated to 1.0 percent month-over-month, reaching 7.6 percent annually. The ongoing Middle East oil fever remains the primary catalyst for the transport logistics inflation currently hitting the broader agricultural business sector.

Maxim Gopka, an analyst at the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club Association, warned that the traditional post-Easter price drop is unlikely to occur this year unless gasoline and transport costs retreat. Gopka noted that feed and fuel remain the primary production expenses for the industry.

US Market Glut Contrasts Surge

While European markets grapple with the Easter price spikes, the United States is experiencing a paradoxical collapse in egg prices. According to Trading Economics data from mid-March, US wholesale egg prices dropped toward multi-year lows of approximately $0.50 per dozen.

The US price collapse follows an aggressive over-restocking of laying hens after the devastating 2024–2025 avian flu outbreaks. Producers restocked up to 309 million birds, resulting in a massive inventory glut that has collided with cooled consumer demand ahead of the holiday.
