Drone Strikes US Embassy In Baghdad Amid Expanding Gulf War

A drone struck the United States embassy in Baghdad early Saturday morning as a wave of regional missile interceptions triggered explosions across the central financial district of Dubai. The strike in the Iraqi capital follows recent military action in the city that killed two Iran-backed fighters, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing regional conflict.

Air defense systems across the Arabian Peninsula are actively engaging projectiles. Saudi Arabian forces neutralized incoming drones over the northern Al-Jawf region, while interceptors downed missiles over Doha, Qatar, prompting emergency evacuations in key districts. The widespread aerial attacks follow recent operations on Kharg Island, an offensive that prompted Tehran to vow the destruction of US-linked energy infrastructure.

During the sequence of attacks, five US Air Force refueling planes sustained damage on the ground at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.

The US State Department subsequently issued a $10 million bounty for information regarding Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran’s newly established supreme leader, alongside other high-ranking officials within the government.

The current hostilities stem from February 28, 2026, when coordinated US and Israeli airstrikes resulted in the death of Iran’s previous supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran initiated a sustained campaign of ballistic missile and drone launches directed at Israeli military installations and commercial shipping routes.

The United States military is currently reinforcing its posture in the region. Approximately 2,500 US Marines, alongside the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli, are in transit to the Middle East.
