McDonald’s UK will launch the McGriddle on Tuesday, March 17, ending a 23-year wait for British customers. The fast-food chain officially confirmed the release on March 12 following a social media campaign that featured blindfolded participants tasting the sweet and savory breakfast sandwich.
The highly anticipated arrival brings a requested menu item to morning living routines across the country. The UK version mirrors the classic American recipe, stacking a sausage patty, a fried egg, and a slice of American cheese between two maple syrup-infused griddle cakes.
Customers can purchase the McGriddle strictly during breakfast hours, which conclude at 11:00 AM local time. McDonald’s is pairing the launch with a numerical discount for delivery customers. Those spending £15 or more on breakfast via McDelivery between March 13 and March 29 will receive £3 off their total order.
The McGriddle was originally conceptualized by McDonald’s executive chef Gerald Tomlinson in 1999 before making its US debut in June 2003. Over the past two decades, the item expanded to international markets including Canada, Japan, and Mexico, while the UK remained a notable holdout.
The UK launch faced logistical hurdles before the official announcement. Initial leaks pointed to a February release, but the rollout was delayed until mid-March due to supply chain complexities involving the importation of the bespoke maple-crystal buns. The McGriddle will be available as a strictly limited-time offering through the end of the promotional period on March 29.
