Pawandeep Rajan, the winner of Indian Idol 12, recently spoke out about a severe road accident he endured in May of this year. The singer had remained silent on the incident for six to seven months.
He shared the harrowing details of the crash during a recent appearance on Salim-Sulaiman’s podcast. Rajan described how he turned the traumatic event into a life lesson.
The accident occurred on May 5 around 3 AM near Moradabad. Rajan was en route to Delhi to catch a flight for a live show in Ahmedabad. His car collided with a stationary truck.
Rajan recalled the initial lack of help, followed by the arrival of the police. He was trapped inside the car as it caught fire. He stated, “The car had caught fire, and I was inside it at the time. One of them pulled me out.”
He continued, “I don’t know how long I was inside, but when I woke up, I was out of the car. Then I was taken to the hospital.”
Rajan sustained multiple severe injuries, including fractures in both legs, an injury to his right hand, and a head injury. He was first taken to a local government hospital.
Later, he was transferred to a specialized hospital in Delhi-NCR for several necessary surgeries. From the hospital, he immediately called his family.
He said his primary focus was on receiving urgent medical treatment. Rajan reported, “Both my legs and one hand were broken. I called home and asked my family to come. I was just thinking about getting treatment as soon as possible.”
The initial month of recovery was extremely challenging; he was unable to move. Rajan stated that the experience made him value his ability to walk.
He recounted his slow progress. “For the first month, I couldn’t even move from one side to the other. But now I can walk a little, which makes me happy.”
He has slowly started walking and can now play the guitar, indicating some strength has returned to his hand. Rajan hopes for further improvement in his mobility.
Rajan emphasizes accepting such incidents, moving forward, and maintaining a positive outlook. He said, “Everything is better now. When such incidents happen, you should accept them, move forward, and stay positive.”
He concluded, “Slowly, I’ve started walking and even playing the guitar. There’s some strength back in my hand, but it still needs more healing.”
