Portugal’s women’s national team suffered a decisive 5-0 defeat to Brazil on Tuesday, raising concerns about their readiness for the upcoming 2027 Women’s World Cup qualification campaign.
The match, held in Aveiro, saw Brazil open the scoring in the first minute. Gabi Zanotti found the net early for the South American side.
Brazil extended their lead through Ludmila in the 17th minute and Dudinha in the 37th. Isabela added a fourth goal in the 73rd minute, with Bia Zaneratto sealing the 5-0 victory from a penalty kick in the 90th minute.
This friendly was part of Portugal’s preparation schedule for the European qualification phase for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. That campaign is set to begin in March 2026.
The heavy loss follows another defeat suffered by Portugal last Friday. They lost 2-1 to the Netherlands in a friendly match played in Braga.
In October, the team played two additional preparation matches in the United States. They secured one victory, 2-1, and experienced one defeat, 3-1, during that trip.
