Camila Rebelo Reaches Semifinals; Ana Rodrigues Breaks National Record at European Championships

Portuguese swimmer Ana Pinho Rodrigues set a new personal national record in the 50-meter butterfly, while Camila Rebelo qualified for the 200-meter backstroke semifinals at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland, on Tuesday.

Rodrigues achieved a time of 1 minute, 6.70 seconds in the 50-meter butterfly eliminations. This surpassed her previous national best of 1 minute, 6.73 seconds. She placed 22nd overall and did not advance to the next phase of the competition.

Rebelo, the reigning European long course champion from Belgrade in 2024, secured the fourth-fastest time in the 200-meter backstroke qualifications. Her performance was 2 minutes, 6.93 seconds. She is scheduled to compete in the semifinals starting at 8:10 p.m. Central European Time (CET).

Other Portuguese athletes also saw action on the opening day. Francisca Martins, a bronze medalist in Belgrade, finished 11th in her elimination race with a time of 4 minutes, 5.02 seconds, missing a final qualification by just four-tenths of a second.

Miguel Nascimento posted a personal best of 23.17 seconds in the 50-meter butterfly. Alexandre Amorim also achieved a personal record in the 100-meter breaststroke, finishing in 59.75 seconds, placing 51st in the eliminations.

Ana Guedes finished 30th in the 50-meter butterfly with 26.96 seconds, just ahead of Mariana Cunha who recorded 26.98 seconds. João Costa was 22nd in the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 1 minute, 54.56 seconds.

The Portuguese 4×50-meter freestyle relay team, comprising Ana Pinho Rodrigues, Francisca Martins, Mariana Cunha, and Rafaela Azevedo, finished 13th in their elimination round. Their combined time was 1 minute, 42.37 seconds.
