Sporting Crushes Bottom-of-the-Table Mafra With Five-Goal Performance

Sporting secured a dominant five-goal victory over Mafra, the last-place team in the National Junior League’s South Series, significantly reducing the point difference with the current leader.

The commanding performance pushed Sporting to within five points of U. Leiria, the league leader, with Sporting holding two games in hand. This result intensifies the race at the top of the youth league standings.

Sporting’s assault began early, with Miguel Almeida converting a penalty kick in the fourth minute. Sérgio Siza doubled the lead in the 35th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error from the home side.

After the halftime break, Mafra showed more attacking intent but continued to be punished for defensive lapses. Simão Soares extended Sporting’s lead, followed by Miguel Almeida scoring his second goal of the match. Diogo Martins sealed the impressive five-goal rout.

In the Northern Series, FC Porto maintained its undefeated streak and comfortable lead after securing a win in Chaves. Meanwhile, Famalicão drew with Vizela, impacting the standings in that division.
