FC Porto’s president André Villas-Boas underscored the unwavering strength of the club, attributing its resilience and continued competitive impact to the deep dedication of its members and fervent fan base.
Speaking at the club’s Golden Dragons gala, Villas-Boas asserted that this collective “strength allows FC Porto to keep troubling so many rivals.” He added that this support ensures the club never feels alone, even when facing difficult paths.
He highlighted record-breaking season ticket sales over the past two seasons. Stadiums, both at home and away, consistently see full attendance.
Thousands of supporters routinely accompany the team on extensive travels. Villas-Boas praised their unity and energy in defending the club.
Villas-Boas emphasized that the “Golden Dragons” awards recognized not merely victories or goals. Instead, they honored “hours of dedication, effort, sweat, difficult decisions, but above all, a willingness to serve a passion.”
He described the awards as a “point of passage” rather than an endpoint, further connecting recipients to FC Porto. Honorees were recognized for maintaining “the flame of exigence” during a challenging year.
Villas-Boas declared the club belongs to its members. He stated his leadership aims to pass on the club’s material and intangible heritage, ensuring it is richer for future generations.
The club’s distinguishing trait, he said, is its ability to renew itself. This is done with a persistent will to fight, realism, and fearlessness, striving for a “bigger, more competitive, and more faithful to its identity” FC Porto.
He concluded his address with two words: gratitude and confidence. Gratitude extended to FC Porto employees, his board, social bodies, and the corporate administration supporting him.
Confidence, he noted, stems from building solid foundations despite current difficulties. This work aims to achieve major victories again and lift trophies, which he described as the club’s greatest desire.
