Fábio Vieira Fires 10-Man Hamburg to Dramatic Stoppage-Time Win

Arsenal loanee Fábio Vieira scored a dramatic stoppage-time goal to secure a 2-1 victory for Hamburg over Stuttgart, snapping the club’s five-game winless streak despite playing with 10 men.

The Portuguese midfielder’s winning strike came in the 94th minute of Sunday’s Bundesliga encounter, marking his first goal of the season. Vieira had entered the match as a substitute in the 67th minute.

Hamburg had been reduced to 10 players after Alexander Rossing-Lelesiit was sent off in the 81st minute. Vieira’s decisive goal was assisted by his compatriot Fábio Baldé, who also came off the bench in the second half.

Earlier in the match, Hamburg took the lead through Robert Glatzel’s goal in the 17th minute, assisted by Rossing-Lelesiit. Stuttgart’s Undav equalized in the 54th minute, beating Hamburg’s Portuguese goalkeeper Daniel Fernandes.

Another Portuguese defender, Guilherme Ramos, also featured for Hamburg in the final minutes.

The win moved Hamburg up to 13th place in the league standings with 12 points, ending a run of three losses and one draw in recent Bundesliga fixtures. Stuttgart, playing without the injured Tiago Tomás, fell to sixth place with 22 points following the defeat.

Elsewhere on the 12th Bundesliga matchday, Mainz became the new bottom-placed team after a 4-0 loss to Freiburg, who currently sit eighth with 16 points. Mainz’s drop to last was cemented by Heidenheim’s 2-1 victory over Union Berlin on Saturday.

Wolfsburg secured a valuable point with a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt. The result saw Frankfurt drop to seventh place with 21 points, moving out of the European qualification zone. Wolfsburg, Bundesliga champions in 2008/09, remain 15th, just one point above the relegation zone.
