Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim asserted that heightened intensity and a focus on “small details” are the critical ingredients for his team to defeat any adversary, following their recent 2-1 comeback win against Crystal Palace.
Amorim, speaking after the match, expressed satisfaction with his team’s willpower in the second half. He specifically highlighted a marked improvement in numerous minor aspects of play.
“I think we had more intensity and played better in the second half. The opponent was more tired. It’s all connected,” Amorim told TNT Sports.
He elaborated that “the small things,” such as how Joshua Zirkzee controlled the ball and how the team defended second balls, were notably different after halftime. “Small details make the difference and then with the talent upfront we scored two,” he added.
The coach also stressed the crucial role of set pieces in modern football, referencing Mason Mount’s goal from a free-kick.
“It’s very important in our league. It’s difficult to play against all opponents,” Amorim noted. “In the Premier League, if we don’t work on set pieces we are already losing.”
Zirkzee’s goal, his first since last season, was significant for the striker. Amorim emphasized that Zirkzee’s overall response and performance in the second half were as important as the goal itself.
“Again, the small details are important for our game. The goal is fundamental for him and the team,” Amorim stated.
Regarding Bruno Fernandes, who appeared to be in discomfort after the game, Amorim confirmed the midfielder had sustained “a kick.” The coach had yelled at Fernandes to confirm if a substitution was needed, but Fernandes assured him it was “just a kick” and he was fine.
Amorim concluded by emphasizing the broad importance of securing victories in every game. He reiterated that the Crystal Palace win demonstrated that increased intensity in every play, along with precise passes and improved movement, could allow his team to overcome any opposition.
