Chaves Coach Martins: Team Proves Capable Against Promotion Rivals

Chaves coach Filipe Martins highlighted the crucial nature of Sunday’s upcoming match against rival Torreense, calling it a “six-point game” vital for his team’s promotion aspirations.

Martins stressed that a victory would allow Chaves to draw level on points with Torreense, a direct competitor in the league’s push for promotion, despite having played an additional game.

“It’s a game against a direct opponent, a six-point game, in which we can equalize them if we win, despite having played one more game,” Martins told reporters in a pre-match briefing.

He acknowledged Torreense as a strong adversary, praising their “quality, with a good playing model, a good coach, good individual talents, and also collectively strong.”

Martins expressed confidence in Chaves’ ability to perform in such high-stakes contests. “This team has also shown in these games, against direct opponents and playing away, that it is competent and capable of competing with teams that want the same as us,” he said.

Chaves secured four points from their last two outings, including a recent draw at home against the league leader.

Martins described these performances as “not brilliant” but “very competent,” reflecting the team’s improved consistency. “We have shown greater consistency over 90 minutes, and now it is important to translate that into points, preferably with all three,” Martins added, emphasizing the desire to move closer to their target zone in the standings.

He also noted the unpredictable nature of the fixture, stating, “it’s a three-way game, which any of the teams can win.”

The match is scheduled for Sunday at 11:00 AM local time.
