Veteran lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar has dismissed concerns that artificial intelligence poses a threat to human creativity. He stated that AI cannot replace natural human ingenuity.
Akhtar emphasized that AI operates within its own limitations. He explained that artificial intelligence is fundamentally based on data and lacks independent intellect.
These comments were made during a recent literary festival. Akhtar expressed confidence that AI cannot replicate human creativity “for now.”
He used the example of nuclear energy, noting its potential for both beneficial and destructive applications. Akhtar also drew parallels to historical fears surrounding new discoveries, such as the steam engine.
Akhtar highlighted that throughout history, people have often been apprehensive about new technologies. He reminded the audience of India’s journey from technological infancy to becoming a major industrial nation after gaining independence, attributing this progress to resources like language, culture, mythology, poetry, and art.
Further underscoring his contributions to literature and art, Javed Akhtar was recently honored at a literature festival. Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati inaugurated the event.
Akhtar received the inaugural SOA Literature Award. This prestigious recognition includes a citation, a shawl, a silver statue of Goddess Saraswati, and a cash prize of 700,000 Indian Rupees, which is approximately $8,400 USD.
