Academico de Viseu Claims Fifth Straight Win, Joins Promotion Race

Académico de Viseu secured their fifth consecutive league victory on Saturday, defeating Penafiel 2-0 and solidifying their position in Portugal’s second-tier promotion race.

Goals from André Clóvis, the league’s top scorer, and Rúben Pereira in the second half propelled the home side to a crucial win. The result provisionally moved Académico de Viseu into third place in the league standings.

This impressive winning streak has occurred under coach Sérgio Fonseca, who has guided the team to an undefeated run since taking charge.

The match, played at Estádio do Fontelo in Viseu, saw a contentious first half marked by frequent interruptions and limited attacking play. Both teams went into halftime scoreless.

André Clóvis broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, scoring his 12th goal of the season by following up on a shot that rebounded off the post.

Rúben Pereira sealed the victory in the 82nd minute, heading in a goal against his former club. Penafiel struggled to create significant chances and never truly tested Académico de Viseu goalkeeper Domen Grill.

Earlier in the game, Penafiel had a goal disallowed for offside in the 31st minute, a decision confirmed by VAR.

With this win, Académico de Viseu climbed to 21 points. Penafiel remained in 10th place with 13 points, having played one more match.

A crowd of 874 spectators attended the game, which was officiated by Carlos Macedo. Five yellow cards were issued during the match.
