Tragedy Before Libertadores Final: Palmeiras Fan Dies in Lima Bus Crash

A Brazilian football fan died in Lima, Peru, after suffering a fatal head injury on a tourist bus just hours before his team, Palmeiras, was set to play in the Copa Libertadores final. Caue Brunelli Dezotti, 38, was on a panoramic tour when he reportedly struck his head on a low bridge.

Dezotti was in the Peruvian capital to attend the CONMEBOL Libertadores final between Palmeiras and Flamengo, scheduled for Saturday evening local time.

According to local police, cited by Brazilian press, Dezotti received immediate medical attention and was transported to a hospital. However, he succumbed to the impact of the injury.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the tourist bus did not reduce its speed as it passed under the bridge.

Palmeiras club issued a statement expressing its sorrow. “Palmeiras deeply regrets the passing of fan Caue Brunelli Dezotti, 38, who was in Lima, Peru, to attend the Libertadores final, scheduled for this Saturday,” the club stated. “According to local authorities, the Palmeiras fan was a victim of an accident while on a tourist bus. We express our solidarity with Caue’s family and friends in this moment of pain and sadness.”
